Hi all, anybody had experience of seroma. Had WLE and SNLB 11 days ago, was healing nicely until 2 days ago when felt ill, next day had a mandarin size lump appear above SNLB site. .Have been given antibiotics to prevent infection and told to keep an eye on it, they would rather avoid draining.

  • Hi yes I had a Seroma in my groin after my SNLB.

It was quite large and a bit uncomfortable to start with. The skin cancer team monitored it and it was examined at each quarterly Ultrasound.Like you they said they would prefer not to drain it and that the fluid would be absorbed back into my body and it did.It took a good few months but it gradually got smaller and eventually my Ultrasound and CT scan confirmed it had gone.

    Hope that helps?

2 years down the line all is OK still.

  • Thanks for the response, mine is under armpit, quite noticeable , pliable and awkward position.  Stitches out Monday so will get to check it, just have to watch for infection and sent specialist nurse photos on Monday to see if they want me in. They seem mostly concerned my possible infection and preventing that.

  • Hello!

I also had a seroma after my surgery, under the armpit. It was very painful.

Weirdly the seroma only started to appear  2 weeks after the surgery, and unfortunately it got infected, so eventually they drained it and I took antibiotics for 10 days.

I did noticed that putting warm patches on it, or the hot water bottle, it was helping a lot. Make sure is not too hot though  :) you don't want to burn yourself.

Don't worry eventually it will dissapear by itself, take any treatment the doctors offer and keep an eye on how it evolves.

    Wish you fast recovery :)

  • Thanks, my seroma still with me, but hasn't got bigger, appears smaller if anything.  So hopefully will continue to reduce over the next few weeks.
