BCC - long wait to surgery

Hi, I know I've written this on the wrong forum, and I'm probably the only person that finds this site really confusing, but I couldn't figure out how to leave this on a BCC forum.

I've been diagnosed with a BCC. It's been growing for a year and a half now and before Christmas the area around the BCC was very painful, so I knew it was something.

I know this is the best skin cancer to have, but I've just been told surgery won't be for two months and I am concerned it's going to go deeper, given where it is - it's on my cheek next to my nose. I've also had multiple skin changes since being on immunosuppressants.

Any reassurance would be great, that this isn't going to spread? Or should I try and get it sooner?

Thank you.

  • Hi

To ask questions, share experiences and get support from others who have had a BCC you first need to join the skin cancer group.

To do this, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi Latchbrook,

Thank you so much! I don't know why I get so confused?

    Shall I delete this one?

    Thank you.

  • No problem.

The only way a post that has had replies can be deleted is to request the site administrators to do it for you.

There would be no harm leaving it here but if you'd prefer to delete it they can be contacted by email on community@macmillan.org.uk

  • Thank you. I'll leave it here, in case other are confused like me! Face palm

  • Hello Luffy, I also found the site confusing, though it’s because I’m not very techy. I’m getting the hang of it the more I use it.

Reading your post I totally understand why you are concerned. Hopefully now you’ve found yourself on the skin cancer site, you will have found other people’s posts with similar worries about the length of time you have to wait prior to surgery. Some people wait longer than others and I’d like to think this is because they prioritise their patients.

If you have any worries or change in health, contact your cancer nurse. I find mine, is a great go between with oncology team. I email and she always gets back to me, maybe not on the same day but once she gets the info I need.

    take care xx

  • Thanks Hevellan, I just read your bio, and blimey you've been through it. So glad to hear you're stable! Really hope you keeping getting stable scans and can enjoy your friends/family.

I realise mine, especially in comparison, is the best type to have, and totally expect others to be prioritised. I just worry at the speed of change. Measured today and 1mm bigger than a few weeks ago, so just feel a bit anxious as it's on my face, and I don't heal too well.

The medsec's been great. I think there's just a general shortage of surgeons/time at the mo, so will have to wait.

What I'm most annoyed at is it got dismissed by five doctors over a year and a half, and could have been dealt with a lot sooner. Ho hum.

I did this thread again on the recently diagnosed, and now I'm all over the place! Face palm
