I was diagnosed with Melanoma grade 1a a few weeks ago. My question  is can the results be wrong. I am just worried  as I have been feeling unwell for some time . Flu like symptoms  glands sore on mSweatneck fatigued brain fog gastro issues bowel issues pains in my bones recently  intense night sweats. I am worried in case the melanoma is spread but it can't spread at level 1a S I understand  it . I have also had visual issues.  I don't want  to become  paranoid but I just don't feel right at all. I had the melanoma  excised from my left cheek  on October  7th and am going back for a second excision  on Monday next week .

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the melanoma group

The staging of melanoma is based on the depth of the melanoma and Stage 1a means that the melanoma is less than 1mm thick.

Although Stage 1 means your melanoma is at an early stage, is only in the skin and there is no sign that it has spread to lymph nodes or other parts of the body, unfortunately melanoma is a sneaky disease and it doesn't mean that it will never recur or pop up elsewhere.

I don't want to alarm you but you know your own body best so it would be a good idea to speak to your SCNS (skin cancer nurse specialist), sometimes referred to as a keyworker or Macmillan nurse, so that they can decide if you need to see your consultant.

Hopefully, it's just the stress of the last couple of months but it's always better to err on the side of caution.

When you have a moment it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Always go with your gut feeling, contact your scns & get some advice hopefully it’s nothing sinister & not related to your diagnosis but it’s better to get checked out & put your mind at rest.

    best wishes
