Hi guys...I'm still new on here so please bear with. I had WLE and SLNB in October....still waiting for results...it's been almost 7 weeks now.  Is anyone else in the same position? It seems like an endless wait xx

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll both find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

Waiting for results is a very stressful time and the length of time it takes for them to come back largely depends on how busy the pathology laboratories are in your area of the country.

If it's gone past the time that you were told they should be back by, then give your skin cancer nurse specialist (SCNS) a call so that she can find out what's happening for you. If you haven't been allocated a SCNS, sometimes referred to as a keyworker or Macmillan nurse, then phone your consultant's secretary and she should be able to see what's happening for you.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Do come back and let me know how you get on

    • Hi  latctchbrook, thank you so much for your response. I do have a CSN, I have called once a week for the last two weeks to check if results are back. Unfortunately I haven't had the best experience when calling for an update and advice. I was made to feel like I was being a burden. I am a nurse myself and I would never speak to patients in my care the way I was spoken to. I won't be calling again! Just hoping results are back before Christmas so my family can stop worrying. Thanks again for your kind words and advice. Take care xx
  • You should definitely not be made to feel like you are a burden  .

As a nurse, I'm sure you're aware that each hospital has a PALS department and part of their remit is to help patients resolve issues when using the NHS. It might be time to have a word with them so that they can chase up your results for you.

  • Hey, yes you are right...I have been giving some thought about contacting pals. I fully understand how busy they are and the workload is unmanageable at times. I will try speaking to them again tomorrow...hopefully she is having a better day. If not I will contact pals. Thank you so much for your advice xx

  • No problem. Do let me know how you get on.
