It's been a few weeks now for me to try and get my head around my new lung cancer diagnosis, and a few things have happened since. I had a Pet scan done up in Dundee, and I got the results back pretty quick, but my consultant says that the small shadows on my lungs that they are worried about didn't show up as hotspots as they normally would in fact no hotspots anywhere in the lung. Does this mean that its not Cancer or does it just mean that they are to small to show up on the scan?. I'm being handed over to a Mr Kirk and the lung specialist team in Glasgow to have a look at my results, so I'm just waiting to here which would be the best treatment for the shadows. I've also been told that my oncologist is looking into the possibility of SABR radiotherapy, has anyone had experience of this treatment and what does it involve. I feel kind of in limbo at the moment not knowing what's going to happen.
Hi Big Cally 75. I am so sorry you find yourself here, but welcome. I am sorry I can't answer your question about the hot spots, but thought I would try and help you with some information about SABR radiotherapy. SABR uses fine beams that target the tumour, and does not damage the surrounding healthy tissue in the same way that radiotherapy does. There is an information page about SABR radiotherapy which you can read HERE
I hope you hear back from the lung team soon and get some clarity as to what is going on.
Take care
Hi cally. I have not long finished sabr treatment for lung mets from kidney cancer. It was all very easy and painless. Done at Newcastle freeman hospital can't fault them. Was quite tired afterwards for couple of weeks but went back to work after a week though everyone is different. Have a slight wheeze and have to slow my walking speed but otherwise OK. The machine is initially a bit daunting as it moves around you but v little noise except music staff put on. Wish it could have been all done with sabr but alas some surgery also needed. All scary stuff but the nurses couldn't be better to at putting you at ease in a very unusual and frightening situation.
Thank you for all the information. It is something that I can consider x
