My wife has been diagnosed with lung cancer recently, which has spread to he stomach and lymph nodes.

She has received her second dose of chemotherapy along with her first dose of immunotherapy, which will be repeated on a 3 week cycle.

After the 3rd treatment she will be receiving a CT scan to detect any progress.

The two treatments together were very hard on her and she needed total rest for about 8 days.

Is this normal?

Is there any way of us / me knowing if the treatment is working other than the scan?

A week  after her first treatment her fitness, strength and breathing improved and continues to improve, all is significantly better before her treatment and diagnoses.

Thank you for your support..

  • Hi Stayclose

So very sorry that you have cause to be on here.

Everyone reacts differently to treatment, so it is hard to define a general normal.  What you need to define (and plan for), is your wife's 'normal'.   So if in week 3 your wife is usually feeling at her best, then that is the week to plan the none cancer cancer routine things e.g seeing family and friends, getting out & about, etc.    When she needs to rest post treatment, then plan for that too.

Scans are vital in confirming to what extent the treatment is working i.e is the tumour shrinking. However take the small wins as well, such as it is very positive is that after just one cycle of treatment you are already seeing improvements.

Hope this helps a little bit.

I wish you and your wife the best possible outcomes.

  • Good morning Kegsy,

Thank you for getting back to me so promptly..

I was just grasping and thinking if my wife is feeling stronger and has more energy, I was hoping this is a sign that the chemotherapy is working.

I know the scan will tell us how things are going

I do love your quote and again thank you. PrayHugging
