We're waiting for full body CT scan results on Friday but I'm so scared I don't feel able to support her and if we get told it's spread and there's no options I don't think I will be able to cope. I'm so scared.
Hi Vic212
welcome to the group but sorry to hear about your mum. It is scary to be told a loved one has cancer, but lung cancer treatment has come such a long way in recent years, and there are lots of treatment options. Lung cancer certainly isn’t the death sentence it once was.
Of course you will be scared about the result of the scan, but you will cope, you will find the strength from somewhere because we just do. Once mum gets her treatment plan things will seem easier. It’s all the unknown at the moment that is so terrifying.
Good luck to mum for Friday, I hope you both get some better news.
Thank you so much. I just don't know enough and I'm terrified we'll just somehow be sent away with no treatment options and I'll lose her
I know it’s hard, but try not to think of worst case scenarios. Worrying about things that may not even happen won’t do you any good.
My mum was diagnosed with lung cancer in May. I felt exactly the same as you. I lost my dad when I was 12. So it’s been me, my mum, younger sister & younger brother for a long time. I’m 39 now.
It a lot of information to take in. I hope this helps, I started to feel better once we had a plan of how to treat mum. She has stage 3 which means they can treat her not cure. There are sone great treatments which please god will keep her well for a long time.
Mum is on her 2nd round of chemo. She is doing well, she has lost some of her hair do we shaved it. Now that it’s been done feel like we don’t dread it. I still have times where I get upset but overall we all try to love life as normal as possible. If you go to appointments with your mum have a note book with you write things down. You can also write questions beforehand. It’s easy to get waylaid when you are in appointments.
I promise, somehow you do cope. I suffer with anxiety and have put myself in therapy again. It’s been the best thing as I need to be there for my mum and siblings.
Here if it want to chat.
