Hello,I have decided to open new thread,to share our experience. On September my husband had high temperature, and cough, than he was coughing with blood,he went to AE and xray showed some abnormalities. To cut story short,he did all ct scans Pet scans and in each scans it showed that it’s decreased in size. The biopsy was declined by the radiologist for the same reason ,as she said it’s getting smaller.Than another referral been made and the doctor said it is 100%cancer must do surgery, done all his pre assessment for the surgery, discussed that 30% of his lung must be removed. We ask another ct scan as nodule is decreasing in size we been declined this option as it was not necessary they thought.Than we went and had colour PT scan privately, and it showed even further reduction. So to be more clear his nodule was 5.8 in September 30 and within a month it became 2.2 cm.It reduced in size but they still wanted to operate him.
Private Pet scan came back and showed more reductions,I emailed that to the Hospital as it was Friday and he must have his surgery on Monday morning. They called me at night around and told me that due to the images surgery has been canceled, and he discussed with me over the phone about bronchoscopy instead ,had his bronchoscopy, and today result is back.No tumour ,No cancer,No TB,just an inflammation because of cold, pneumonia or bronchitis.which is reduced in size again during a bronchoscopy.
We are very happy with this news.
But at the same time why do the doctors not pay enough attention to,as we trust them with our life’s.
He would have this surgery done if we didn’t followed our intuition and had this Pet scan privately.
not every patients has 1200£ to pay for private scan, how can I make this right?
I want to write a complaint at least than they will pay more attention to the future patients.
I hope we never will be there patients,I want to help others.
2 month we was living in stress and fears,it was very unpleasant experience for all of us.
Shall I just write a letter or shall I just leave it ,I never been in this situation before and I hope I will never be.
My husband don’t have cancer and I am happy.I fell like I need to warn others to avoid misdiagnosis.
Wishing to everyone long life and strong health
Dear Lesya8bcc66 what a wonderful outcome for you and your husband. I'm so happy for you. But yes, indeed, what stress, and imagine if he had had a lobe of lung removed for no reason. I would think that the doctors, if acting in good faith, would be eager to write up this case history and the reasons for the uncertain (and wrong) diagnosis, to warn their colleagues. What was it, precisely, that made you so sure that your husband did not have cancer? Well done for being your own best advocate! And best wishes for a full recovery from this infection.
Thank you dear for a warm wishes. They had all the 3 CT scans images in front of them, when and it showed that from 5.8 cm it went to 2,5 cm.Why they never raised a concern. Why they never doubt? Why they said yes we go ahead with the surgery regardless. As Pet scan shows evidence of glucose reaction, but inflammation also has glucose reaction.
Shall I just leave it and forget about it?Why patients must pay from their own pocket for another CT scan,we do pay high taxes already.
For my opinion it’s a medical neglect. What would happen if he had this surgery.I want to write a complaint so others doctors will do 200%check before place patients under knife.
thanks
Hi Lesy, first it is great news that the wrong diagnosis went in your husband's favour. Second, thank you for sharing this very worrying story. It would not be right to just stay quiet about it. I know many people who place almost unconditional trust and faith in their doctor so making this public and lodging a complaint through appropriate channels would at least encourage people (including doctors) not to take everything at face value and look for second opinions when so much is at stake. I wish you both all the best for the future.
Patrick xx
Please flag this, it is a very serious near miss. Doctors are human & make mistakes, but like us all, we should learn from our mistakes. I'm so happy with your outcome but stress is also harmful to our health so please report this so hopefully nobody should have to go through what you & your husband have been through.
Hello,I do understand that, doctors are humans and make mistakes. But cancer itself very serious illness, one tiny mistake can kill. And in this case each letter is matter, each coma is important. He had seen 3 different consultants, and each of them wrote the size of the nodules within medical records.I also prior the surgery wrote a huge email, for them to look ,why it shrinks,as cancer not shrink on its own.
they have called me and said that they had a big discussion with other doctors, and by looking at his PET scan he need a surgery asap within 3 days.It was all out of blue for us,we were not living we were like robots just following the flow. But somehow,I believe only God guided us to go and make private scan, and it showed that it shrunk more .Only after those actions, they said ok,let’s do bronchoscopy.I don’t want to complain about the particular doctor,or radiographer,no way.I glad that they acted quick. But at the same time quick is also not good,I am thinking if I write a complaint, maybe it will be more funding,to do another scans.I don’t want some others patients, will experience same as we did.
I don’t want to cause trouble to any Doctors ,I just want to help them to understand their mistake and avoid that happening in a future.
Hope you understand
Thank you I wish you also strong health and happy long life
