So I was diagnosed in September last year with kidney cancer which I had partial removal of but had a recent ct which revealed I have atelectasis of lungs lower lobes and a nodule in the upper right lobe, they also found a 7mm heterogeneous at the surgical site I'm not due to see my urologist until the 25th of this month, was wondering if anyone has had anything simular and can shed some light on what to expect as well know the not knowing is the worse
You can expect it to be bloody annoying, Hospital, clinic visits, discomfort. I had 80mm bowel "C" removed in 03 then a lump in my lung removed in 04. I'm feeling fine now but still have to go for scans and blood tests. You just have to get on with it even if it does grab some of your life. I think the criteria is 5 years free to be considered cured. So I have a few years to go. So I'm going about my life as normal. No reason why you shouldn't
Hi darrolh1988 welcome to the group, but sorry you find yourself here. I would expect you to be seen by the respiratory consultant in the first instance, to do some breathing tests. Have you been advised of any other appointments apart from urology?
No my GP seems to just fob me off when I ask questions and keeps saying you need to wait for your urology appointment I'm guess the 7mm heterogeneous is the return of the kidney cancer it's just the lung stuff we don't understand
Just so I can try to understand what pathway you may be on, can you say who gave you the results of the recent CT scan? Was the urology appointment a routine appointment booked before hearing the ct results ?
Yes it was my 8 month fillow up already booked, my GP sent me for my abdomen scan and urology was chest ct follow up my GP told me the results from my abdomen which included the 7mm heterogeneous, 3 hernias, bone islands in the pelvis bones and the atelectasis in the lower lobes of both lungs and I got the report of the chest ct which states a small nodule in the right upper lobe
I think it would be fair to wait to see the urologist as planned regarding your kidney. However I would not be happy to wait for the lung to be checked out. I would personally get back onto your GP and ask why you are not being seen on the 2 way pathway considering the scan that he ordered has shown atelectasis and a lung nodule. The urologist will be taking care of your kidney, but he is not a lung consultant! If he refuses, then I would write to the GP’s practice manager saying you feel let down and would request an urgent referral to the respiratory team. Unfortunately GP’s are letting patients down, and we have to be our advocates sometimes to get the treatment we are due!
The lung nodule could be just that, a nodule, but it needs investigation. The sooner it is, the sooner it could put your mind at rest.
OK thankyou they found out I had atelectasis of both lower lobes on the 2nd of June
I have emailed a complaint off to my GP waiting for there reply also asked my cns and she said she can't answer my questions wait for my appointment no one will tell me anything
