Hi I'm heather I will be 55 in may I was diagnosed in November 2024 with lung cancer in both lungs left lung is worse than right, I've just finished my treatment last week, on top of all this I lost my sister three years ago to cancer she was 52 at the same time she was diagnosed my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer which is not curable, I'm getting really bad pains in my chest since my treatment finished and coughing a little feeling tired, but my hair is in really bad condition too since I started going for all the scans it's snapping and falling out but they have said this is through worry, got to wait until may to find out if radiotherapy has worked.
Hi Heather welcome to the group, but sorry you find yourself here. Stress certainly does have an effect on our hair, I get alopecia patches on my head from time to time due to worry and stress. Waiting for scan results to see if treatment has worked is such a worry. Radiotherapy can continue to work in your body for several weeks after the treatment has finished, so the first scan might not give the full results of the radiotherapy effects. My tumour shrunk by 50% at the 3 month post radiotherapy, but continued to shrink for the next 6 months after.
Is the chest pain you are experiencing a burning pain? It is very common for the oesophagus to become burnt from radiation. Feeling tired is also a side effect. Have you mentioned these symptoms to anyone in your medical team?
Hi Maya thankyou for putting my mind at ease about the radiotherapy working for weeks after, I got told it was in my body for two weeks after and that's all they said, I'm taking 2 tablets on a morning for heartburn and that seems to be working on my throat and I'm going to go to drs about feeling sick, and I'm just hoping my hair starts to grow again now, I aso have bald patches on the sides 0f my head but I suppose it's only hair and will grow back, thankyou so much you have made me feel much better
I have used plantur 39 shampoo for my hair, it does help, and a real good conditioner, you can get hair repair conditioners that I have used, does help with the breakage x
Thankyou I've been looking for this shampoo in the shop but couldn't find it I'll try on line xxx
