Hi

I'm new to this group. I have stage 3 lung cancer and have just completed 3 cycles of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of radiotherapy and have managed these treatments really well. I was very unsure of how I would react to immunotherapy but so far so good although I have only received 1 treatment so far.

Grateful for any support and or pearksnof wisdom xx

  • Hello Luckylou62.  My husband also has stage 3 small cell lung cancer.  He has 6 more days of radiotherapy [making 6 weeks in total - like you] and then 2 more chemo cycles.  I'm so pleased to learn you did all yours so well.  Well done you!  His main problem at the moment is the 'internal sunburn' from the radiotherapy which is making swallowing very difficult and very very painful.  His doctor has today updated his pain relief for this to morphine solution.  They have not mentioned immunotherapy - yet?  I do hope that your treatment is close to where you live - we have a 40 minute drive for both the chemo and radiotherapy.  Sending you lots of hugs. Christine

  • Hi Zebra

Sorry to hear about the side effects that your husband is experiencing with his radiotherapy. I think it is quite a common side effect unfortunately.  I also had painful swallowing as the radiotherapy had inflamed my oesophagus which lasted until a month after radiotherapy  stopped and I still feel the effects even now although it is settling down now   I took morphine liquid and an antacid and anaesthetic called Oxetacaine 4 times a day for it  this helped a bit but was still very painful and limited what I could eat. Thankfully it is only a temporary side effect and this will go away. Hopefully your husband feels better soon. Maybe his consultant will offer him immunotherapy when his treatment finishes if he fits the criteria for this treatment.

    Sending love and hugs .

  • Well, things have taken a funny turn.  Had huge difficulty yesterday getting him to the hospital for the RT.  He kept collapsing and passing out.  Even managed to do so in the hospital car park!!  They kept him in for a few days to treat the dehydration/low electrolyte/wickedly painful swallowing etc.  In a way I'm pleased because they are in a far far better position to look after him.  Oh well, just another hurdle to jump over.  We'll get there in the end though I'm sure. Love and hugs to you too.  Zebra
