Hello-my husband has just been diagnosed with non small cell stage 4 lung cancer in both lungs and nodes and in the 5th rib. It was a complete shock as he had no symptoms at all apart from a tickly cough following catching Covid 5 weeks before. We have seen the oncologist and decided to have chemo with immunotherapy but we’ve still got no idea when treatment will start. It’s so difficult as there is so much waiting for appts etc. He is 69 and he is so healthy (or so we thought). Is anyone else in a similar situ??
Hi Tessa B
I bought a few different pillows and cushions for my husband as he couldn't lie flat either. He did use a 'V' shaped pillow for a while but eventually we found he was more comfortable lying in a recliner chair which we bought for him.
It's trial and error until you find what supports an individual best.
Ah yes thank you for that. We already had the V shaped pillow and it didn’t help so he’s currently using 3 or 4 pillows to prop him up which are ok but just wanted thoughts of others to see if thes anything better. I think we will try a wedge cushion and see if it’s better plus it’s bit too expensive if it doesn’t work for him. His cough is getting steadily worse though which makes him so
mfortable but I suppose there is much worse to come when he starts his treatment. Hey but I will do all I can to help him through it and prolong the time we have together cis I really can’t imagin
fe without him after 47 years of being together.
He will get through this. Chatting on this to others who are going through it/been through it/catered helps so much. Thank you all for the chats. X
Hi everyone
just wanted to share a little positive news.
my sister had her first round of chemotherapy and immunotherapy just over 2 weeks ago now and things were pretty rough. Over the last week though she has been eating, had more energy and felt a bit better. Yesterday she noticed the lumps in her neck had gone down.
we are so pleased for this week of feeling good, but know it all starts again next week.
is the lumps going down a normal sign? As much as we want to feel positive at the same time we don't want to get ahead of ourselves.
thanks
Sims
Hi Sims
So pleased to read that your sister is feeling a bit better this week.
Hopefully her next round of chemo won't knock her around quite as much as the first time...my husband found his second dose was a bit kinder to him. However, not everyone reacts the same as each chemo dose is measured to a patient's prescription and bodies and cancers react differently.
I can't comment on the lumps appearing smaller as I have no experience but I will join you in hoping that they are shrinking and that the change is a positive one.
Mym x
Hello Tessa B.
I have lung cancer treatable but not curable and my treatment plan consisted of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, if you tap my avatar you can see my journey so far. My treatment plan has not been easy and I've had a few bumps along the way but it has been doable. I am 16 months into my treatment and have returned to work so it has been positive so far. I am happy to chat or answer any questions you have if you want to message me.
Have a good day Donna
Hi Sims
Thats great news and sounds quite positive and makes the suffering for her worthwhile. Thank u so much for sharing this it gives us hope for the future.
My hubby hasn’t started his treatment yet but things are starting to move a bit quicker now with various pre treatment appts taking place. Your updates really help us to keep strong.
and trying to keep positive.
Hi all I hope you are feeling ok
wr now have an appt in Monday with Radiotherapy for pre planning treatment plus a date of 6 April for chemo/immuno to start.
In the beginning it was a severe pain in his side that took us to A&E and they discovered the tumours. That pain they said was his rib where the cancer had spread to. The pain went within a few days. Now he has similar pain in 2 areas of his back. Has anyone else had something similar. They did assure us that the cancer was slow growing but we are concerned these pains mean it’s spreading although they also said the pain in the beginning could have been due to blood clots.
Hi Hamhat
I hope you are well and happy to be back at work it sounds like uve been through a lot in ur journey but great you are doing so well now
my husband is having radiotherapy next Monday and starting chemo/immuno therapy next Thursday I’m hoping it doesn’t affect him too badly and that he can get to the stage you have reached
i hope you don’t mind me asking but how many cycles of chemo/immuno did you have and what side effects did you have? I am just trying to prepare myself so I know how to help him feel a bit better
I don’t drive but he’s been told he can drive to the chemo sessions and should be able to drive back without any problem is that true?
Sorry to ask so many questions but you are the only person on this group who had very similar to him and who is so far ahead with treatment.
Tessa
Hi,
I hope your husbands treat goes well Tessa
Donna, I was wondering if I could ask if you had the same side effects from the second cycle of treatment? My sister is having chemo and immunotherapy for stage 4 lung cancer and starts her second cycle on Wednesday. She's weaker than the first cycle and is so much more anxious about it now she knows how she felt after.
I'm glad your 16 months in and you're back at work
Simone
