Hi
first time posted in here, my mum was diagnosed 6 months ago with nsclc with mets to adrenal gland. In June a scan showed the chemotherapy hadn’t worked and it has spread to other adrenal gland and possibly started on the liver. They have prescribed steroids which have given her a lot of energy and have worked wonders. The consultant said he was willing to try a different chemo drug (daxotaxel) the side effects are constant dry mouth which keeps her awake and really bad heartburn. Anyone got any suggestions to minimise side effects?
Hi Mr.a welcome to the group but sorry to hear about your mum.
Another member has posted this morning regarding Docetaxel, and hopefully there will be someone along shortly to share their experience there. I have added a fact sheet to that post which you may want to read, you can find that post HERE
Heartburn is very unpleasant. Has your mum spoken to her GP or consultant about this? There are medications that can be taken which break down the acid in the tummy before the heartburn starts, I am on omeprozole myself for this.
There is also an artificial saliva spray which your mum may find helpful for the dry mouth, again she can get this on prescription, so best to talk to the GP in case there is something else going on to cause the dry mouth.
Wishing your mum all the best on her treatment x
