Hi first timer hereRaising hand

So I'm a 46 year old female..

In the last 6 months of been getting chest pain but only when taking deep breaths its pretty much been there constantly.. Also I have lost 20 pound in weight.. I struggle to even lose a pound so its really concerning me.

I went to see the nurse about 4 months ago and she did the usual blood tests checked my heart blood pressure and felt my tummy IH and did a smear.. So all came back good..fast forward to last week with still losing weight and this pain when inhaling I phoned my Dr and she has sent me for a chest xray which of just had today.. I'm to ring on Friday for my results I'm terrified as my mum only died last year of lung cancer it was awful.. Anyway can anybody tell me there symptoms or are my symptoms classic ones of lung cancer..

Thank you for any replies I'm going nuts here x

  • My symptoms were slight breathlessness on exertion then a collapsed lung and my chest filled up with fluid, pounding heart too.    No pain though.     Have you been stressed recently as severalvyears ago i had the pain on breathing in and weight loss but it was stress as i was getting divorced.     Hopefully you will get good news.

Thank you fay.. I appreciate you replying.. Yes iv been very stressed this last year losing my mum..and with all this covid.. Then 2 of my children caught it..the thing is tho most of my life is a stress but I've never lost weight before or had this pain when breathing in deep..its not a sharp pain its really hard to describe and my lungs feel like there being squeezed in certain positions..I don't know how I'm going to cope waiting for these results.. I'm so worried..

I hope you are feeling better now gun that sounded horrendous what you went through.. Sending all my love x

  • Vicky, it sound s like you've had a rough time.   My anxiety felt like a tight band around my chest and pain whenvi breathed in deeply.    Waiting for results is the worst thing i know.    Friday will soon be hear and hopefully be good news x

  • Hi there...it's a scary time waiting to find out but try not too dwell on it too much....easier said than done I know.

I'm a young 55 and I had no symptoms until one day in July (18th) I took a breath and it just felt odd. I wasn't breathless but I just felt that I couldn't get enough air in. That was on the Sunday...and as I had a smear booked for the Tuesday as asked if I could see a doctor as I thought I'd got asthma. Fortunately the doc was on the ball and she referred me that afternoon to the respiratory dept at hospital where they xrayed me. My left lung was squooshed by a load of fluid (A pleural effusion).  My blood tests all came back fine. They took some fluid from my chest and sent it for biopsy and made me an appointment for a CT scan the following week. Fast forward to the CT scan which unfortunately showed a 4 cm tumor and the biopsy came back showing cancer cells in the fluid...which automatically put me in the stage 4 category. Talk about a shock...I felt like I was watching a drama on TV...none of it seemed real.

Here we are no now 5 weeks later, I've had a semi permanent tube in my chest which has to be drained daily, and I had my first treatment of immunotherapy (keytruda) 4 weeks ago, I'm now on a 2 year course with a treatment every 6 weeks.

I truly hope all turns out well for you...meanwhile, try not to Google...I did and it was stupid of me as I got myself totally worked up. You are young, the weight loss could be stress, the breathing difficulty could be a number of things. If it does turn out to be something nasty make sure you come on here as it's been a godsend for me. There's lots of people who know exactly how you feel and what you're going through.

We've all got our fingers and toes crossed that you don't join this shitty club we find ourselves in xxxx

  • Hi Vicky47, I had no symptoms until the tumour on the top of my lung broke through into the bronchial airway. Then I had breathlessness, constant coughing and coughing up blood. It was extremely scary. No pain or cough prior to this though, although the oncologist believes it was in my lungs for a couple of years.

The waiting for results is the worst bit. The unknown is torture. Good luck for Friday, let us know how you get on x
