Hello I was diagnosed with early stage adenocarcinoma in my right lung in April this year. As I'm a 76 year old I was not fit for surgery, so I had sart for 5 treatments. That finished 8 weeks ago, now I will need a ct scan in 4 weeks time, to see if it has worked. I find this waiting time very difficult, has anyone else been in the same situation.

  • Hi

Radiotherapy continues to work on the cancer for some time after the last session, which is why they wait for a while before m doing a ct scan.

Many on here have had that same waiting time.  I appreciate in can be a difficult period but please be re-assured that this is a normal  practice.

I hope this helps a bit.

Yes you have helped a lot. Thank you for taking the time to reassure  me .

  • Hi I am at the stage you are now but I have my CT scan on the 13th and the wait can be unbearable waiting to see what is next. I am 63 and when they gave me the news I had combined cancer and surgery was out of the equation I just wanted the floor to open up and swallow me as I was planning to see my great-grandchildren but that's been taken away from me now. The radiation continues to keep working and doing its job for a while after treatment that's why it's a while before we can have our scans to see what's happening to it, it's normal.

I found for me the best way to cope was to have anything they offer and not to think about the cancer while on treatment because its there and I can't do anything about it. My life is in the hands of others so I am going to live life to the full and take day by day and upto now it is working for me.

Don't let the cancer control your life you control it and cry and shout when you need to but have a good time doing what you want. Hugs and kisses Jean xxx

  • Hello I had operation 5 weeks ago to try and remove 2cm tumer but unfortunately they found to many markers and nodules on the wall of my right lung so it was not a success Cry.  I've had to wait for my wounds to heal before I can start any treatment. The surgeon told me it's aggressive but shouldn't spread fingers crossed .  Got an appointment this Tuesday to see the consultant
