Hello everyone,

I'm new to this and would like to hear from anyone that has re-trained since treatment and gone back to work, as I'm looking for a new career.

Any feed back from anyone that has managed to work after treatment would be so welcomed.

Kind regards

Patsy

  • Hi Patsy62 and welcome to the group, but sorry you find yourself here.

I am sorry I do not have any personal experience of this, but I have found this very interesting booklet HERE about work with cancer, which you may find helpful.

    Take care

    • Hi, I went back to work as a teacher after my lobectomy and am continuing to work now whilst on osimertinib. The school has been great - very supportive. I think as long as you feel well enough, you can do whatever you want! x
  • Hi Patsy

I worked from home (and sometimes from the Chemo Unit!) during my treatment. There was no pressure on me to do a full day, 5 days a week; I just worked when I could. I went straight back into work following the end of my treatment. Physically this was probably way too early; however for my own well-being it was very much necessary as getting back to some form of normality was vital for me.

Every one is different, so do what you feel is best for you. Cancer is one of the diseases that comes under the Disability Act. Therefore it cannot be used to discriminate against you. Any employer or future employer/training must make reasonable adjustments to cater for any cancer related needs you may have e.g reduced hours due to post treatment fatigue.

    Hope this helps a bit.
