Hi just got diagnosed on friday chemo starting next week everything moveing very quick as i have a very aggressive cancer but on the plus side responds well to chemo so heres hoping anyone else had this kind of cancer how did chemo work for you
Hello Kitty69, sorry you find yourself here. My lovely mum was diagnosed with SCLC in Dec 20, the only symptom was a husky voice and when she'd had all her tests, it was confirmed it had spread to lymph nodes, adrenal glands, bones and liver. It was a very scary time indeed for us all and so much to take in.
She started chemo and immunotheraphy a few weeks later and after 2 cycles there was significant shrinkage, which was great. Mum has just finished her 4th cycle, which they think will be it for now, and she had another brain scan at the weekend which we hope is still clear and a PET scan in a few weeks. Again we hope for good news. Hopefully mum will be on immuno for 2 years, or for however long she can.
Chemo made mum fatigued at certain points of the days, but she just listened to her body and rested. She lost her hair too, but looks so cute with her little hats she knitted herself.
At first, it was all daunting and new, this site really helped me. There is so much support and knowledge here, hopefully you will gain comfort and support too.
I wish you well on this road xxx
Thankyou i wish your mum well mines was picked up completley by accident i have copd and thought my symptoms was my cope getting worse doctos srnt me for a xray which showed shadow on my right lungs and enlarged lymph nodes which are also cancerous so i suppose its saved my life in away because oncologist said today i would have had 4to 6 weeks to live which was hard to take in but staying pisitive x
Hi. I was diagnosed in December 2020. I started chemo within a week. I had 3 days of chemo every 3 weeks. My scan in February showed the tumour had shrunk by 80%. I have had 6 chemo sessions since the scan so im hoping that there is more shrinkage.
I have now finished chemo and will be starting immunotherapy in 2 weeks time.
stay positive you’ve got this
Hi Kitty69
Very sorry regarding the diagnosis. The positive is that you are getting your treatment started very quickly after the diagnosis.
Back in 2011 I had chemo (cisplatin and etoposide) alongside radiotherapy and am still here to tell the story. My SCLC tumour started to shrink after the first cycle of chemo.
I don't want to give false hope as everyone's outcomes can be different; however I hope that my experience gives you something positive to hang onto.
I wish you the best outcomes.
Kegsy x
Thats brilliant news ive only 1 chemo session every 3 wks maybe your health authoritys different i start next week hoping for a poitive out come for you and i stay strong x
Hi
My chemo sessions were also every 3 weeks; my daily radiotherapy commenced at the 2nd chemo cycles. If the chemo shows signs of shrinking the tumour, ask about radiotherapy being added to the treatment plan?
