Hi all. Just joined the community group, thanks very much for your kind warm welcome and support etc.

Struggling with the prognosis, possibly 6/9 months although cancer had stabilised at my last Scan, thankfully Innocent

Seeing my Oncologist Consultant Professor at end of Feb for a progress check / scan.

I'm 63 years old have a wonderful wife & great circle of friends etc. Had to surrender my licence due to my original prognosis as Limbic Encephalitis which led to the Cancer. Finally got cleared to drive again which I was missing.

Hit a big slippery slope & hit the bottle & started sharing my fears publicly on Facebook & I upset a lot of my good friends, wife & family.

Have recovered with dignity & ceased drinking etc.

Just saying hi. I'm scared to death of the unknown, couldn't really raise much joy from my cancer stabilisation but it's good news. I'm not in any pain at the moment but don't really know what to expect, although I understand pain can be controlled via Oncologists etc.

Be great to hear from you

I live in West Hull & Castle Hill Hospital Queens Centre is my Oncology unit

Cheers & take care/stay safe etc Sparkling heartSparkling heartSparkling heart

  • Hi Walter

Firstly well done on getting back on track with your life.

Secondly. 'stable' is not just good, it is great news. It is the news we all hope for and are delighted to receive.  Please try not to worry about  what or  importantly may not happen in the future; live the life you have now.  .As you have said, you are surrounded by people you love and who love you.

Don't be frightened to discuss your fears with your Oncologist at your forthcoming appointment.

  • Hi Walter and a very warm welcome to the group, but sorry you find yourself here.  It is very good news that the last scan showed stability, but I do understand why you felt that you couldn't celebrate that. After all it's still a situation you would rather wasn't happening.  Any diagnoses of cancer is scary. You start a journey of the unknown, which is leading you to God knows where. You wont be the first person who has had a melt down, and you wont be the last. It sounds like you are surrounded by a very supportive group of people, which is fantastic. To have loved ones with you, unconditionally, is all we can ask for.

Its great that you are not in any pain. Long may that continue.  It is hard to think of the future if you have been given a prognosis, but there are many people on this site that have outlived their sale by date. Its just a number, and that number can be pushed back.  Its great to hear that you have your driving licence back. Hopefully you are able to get out (on local drives during this lockdown) and spend some time out of the house.

If you have a moment it will be very helpful if you can put some details about yourself on Your profile This is very helpful for others to see your journey. You just click on your username then select profile. You can edit this information at anytime, and update the journey as you go.  You can have a look at my profile to get some idea, just click on my user name or picture to go to my profile.
