Just been diagnosed with stage 4 lung primary. Metastatic spread to brain x 2, liver x3, bone x3 lymph and potentially adrenal glands. The only symptoms have and that I presented with are unsteadiness to one side and now tiredness. Obviously for all of us to this group its a massive shock/blow.

The pain of seeing your loved ones go through this is more than I can bear. My daughter is due to give birth to her first baby in next couple of weeks. I can't imagine not being wel and with her during labour (I'm a midwife too)

They think they have identified the type that may be suitable for targeted immunotherapy but waiting on a few more resultsfrom mung biopsy, but now due to timing may not start for a couple of weeks. They have also mentioned doing some brain treatment tol.

How do you get past this time? Its only been 7 weeks since any symptoms began and my world has just completely imploded.

I know this outcome isn't going to be good. I just need some idea of time and success rate and how to cope til the next part

  • Hi  welcome to the group, but I am so sorry to hear your news. I know how terrifying this is for you and your family. With your poor daughter due to give birth in a couple of weeks time as well, I can understand you being worried for her. My girls were young when I was first diagnosed, and my youngest was only 13 when it came back in my lungs. Telling your children is the worst thing to have to do, and I really feel for you with your daughter being so heavily pregnant.

I know how terrified you are right now, and you will probably feel overwhelmed by all the talk of treatments. But being offered targeted immunotherapy is a good thing! It is immunotherapy that is changing the course of people’s treatments and making it possible for people to live much longer lives with this disease. There are many more people now living with lung cancer, and having a good quality of life.

The next few weeks may be difficult for you, and it sounds like you may have to have some treatment to the brain, radiotherapy is often the go to treatment. But things will settle down, and you will be able to spend some quality time with your grand child.

Let us know how you get on, and I hope everything goes well with your daughter, I hope you are able to be there and support her with the birth. I can only imagine how important that is for you, with you bring a midwife as well.
