Hi, I am going to be having a basal segmentectomy early in the new year. I always sleep on my side and assume that will be difficult, or are there any special support pillows that can make that more possible? Thank you for any suggestions.
Hi , I had a trisegmentectomy on upper left lung ( 4 yrs ago ) and for a few weeks I had to sleep in an upright position , I got a backrest for at home which I could have at different levels which I adjusted until I could eventually sleep on just 2 pillows , if that is of any use to know .
Wishing you well for your operation .
Take care Sandra
Thank you Sandra, that's very helpful - will have a look online. Best wishes, Rachel
Hello Mango,
I had a right pneumonectomy and am also a side sleeper so I used a few pillows to be able to sleep upright for a while but this was awkward as they kept slipping down. Some time after I discovered you can buy V-shaped pillows which are supposed to be quite effective for upright sleeping. Might be worth a look?
I hope your operation is a complete success.
Derek.

Hi Rachel , I actually got my back rest from "independent living " , when I no longer needed it I just gave it back to them , it was brand new not a used one, saved me buying one but oh did it help in those first few weeks after my op .
It's amazing how you can adapt to sleeping upright ,especially when you are used to sleeping on your side .
Take care Sandra
Thanks Sandra, what is 'independent living' please?
It's a council run thing where you can get aids to help you live independently hence the name , I've had a few things from them and when i don't need the aids given to me I just return them .
Take care Sandra
Great, thank you for letting me know Sandra. Have a nice tomorrow whatever you're doing!
Same to you , have a lovely day .
Take care Sandra
Hi, just wanted to thank you for suggesting the v shaped pillow. I'm a week post surgery and it is really perfect especially to rest against during the day.
