Hi All

i was diagnosed with NSCLC spread to muscle ,liver spine in January .

immunotherapy going well and I’ve been feeling great until the last few weeks . The pain in my back is excruciating , so bad that I can only get relief lying down .
I spent a few days in hospital getting MRI and a plan for next treatment . Just finished 5 days of Radiotherapy last week but I’ve had no improvement as of yet . Does it take a while to become effective ? I lie on my bed dreading having to try to move .. I take the liquid morphine for relief and and on

MST

Any help/comments would be very much appreciated

thank you xx

  • Hi, I'm so sorry to hear how much pain you are in, it can be very depressing.

I've had radiotherapy treatment twice over the years for two types of cancer, first breast in 1991, and last lung in 2023. Radiotherapy carries on working in the body after treatment finishes for weeks, sometimes months, so effectiveness can take awhile. My last radiotherapy treatment was not followed up for three months after treatment finished. The pain could be a side effect, if it is it is usually temporary. I am having late onset side effects in the form of rib pain on and off after my lung treatment, although it is manageable with Ibuprofen. Maybe if you ring your cancer nurse they can explain things a bit better for you.

I hope you are feeling a bit better soon, sending you my very best wishes.
