Hi, has anyone got any tips for flying after lobectomy? Any advice would be much appreciated, it’s been 8 months since my surgery and we go away in 4 weeks, I’m feeling quite anxious!
Tia
Hi Ela61 I haven’t had a lobectomy so can’t answer this, but have noticed your post remains unanswered so I am bumping it to the top in case it has been missed.
Hi Ela61.
I don’t know if you had breathing or other problems before your lobectomy. If not, then I wouldn’t have thought you would find it any different to previous flights.
I had a lobectomy (upper right by VATS) less than two years ago. I’d had no symptoms and the tumour was found by accident. I’ve flown several times since, including long haul, with no problems at all. Well.. apart from the boredom and the queues!
Hope it works out for you and you have a great trip!
Hi mine was found by accident too!!, I’ve had preventative chemo and radiotherapy, just waiting for my scan in June and hopefully good news, that’s all good to hear, thank you
My mam had her operation in January, is having preventative chemo and is recovering well. We've booked a holiday to Majorca in August, 10 weeks after her last low dosage chemo... do you think we're being overly optimistic or should we be ok?
Her tumour was found by accident too and had the same operation as you. I know everyone is different, but hoping We've not screwed up by booking too early.
Hi.
I had chemo after my lobectomy too. Four sessions. My first flight (Europe) was about four months after the chemo finished. Absolutely no different to previous flights.
My biggest concern was if the scan due to be done just before the trip revealed cancer had come back elsewhere.
Took the view that it was worth the risk and that i could start whatever treatment needed as soon as I got back. Thankfully ok so far.
Hope it works out for you and your Mum and you have a great holiday.
Hi sorry it’s taken me a while to answer, unfortunately I have been in hospital with pneumonia, I’m home now, I asked my consultant about flying and he said as long as I waited the required amount of time think it was about 2 months , he would recommend a holiday as it helps recovery, ask for some advice, it’s always best, hope all goes well for the future x
