Has anyone experienced long-term (over 9 months) stomach problems after having a lobectomy/lung surgery, chemo and radiotherapy particularly left upper lung. Bloating, gas, reflux, indegestion, nausea, no appetite, bad taste in mouth?

How long did it last? Did anything really help/cure it?

  • Hello Everyday

I am sorry to hear that you are having some longer term issues after your treatment for lung cancer.

I had a different type of cancer to you but I also had surgery, chemo and radiotherapy. I have lingering problems from both the chemo and the radiotherapy. I am 2 years post treatment.

The best thing to do is to talk these side effects through with your CNS/doctors so that they are aware. I know for myself I had regular support from my CNS at my 12 weekly check up appointments. It may be that they need to get you in and check you over before working out how best to deal with these effects.

I did have some nausea, tummy effects and the bad taste in my mouth after chemo finished. From what I remember the altered taste took a few months to go and sometimes things that I used to like, I no longer do.

I was prescribed medication for the nausea and the tummy effects that did help.

I know that I got pretty fed up with some of the lingering effects so do get them checked out. Hopefully they can sort some medication that will help.

    Jane

  • hello, my mum had quite a bit of tummy trouble following her treatment (which included chemo/immunotherapy & surgey). She found taking probiotics helped. You can get them in tablet form or as yogurt. Worth a try. X

  • Hi, I also had a left upper lobectomy (September 23) followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Ive suffered ever since with stomach problems. Although they still occur i have found that what I eat definitely effects it so I try to eat as clean and healthy as I can which seemsbto help alot.. I cheat now and again with a takeaway though Wink
