I was diagnosed with lung cancer NSCLC on September that's incurable but treatable.

After my first 3 months of immunotherapy on Osimertinb my scans show the tumours have reduced and hopefully will stay like this for a long time.

To celebrate this small win in a long battle , we want to go to the Canaries in March and would like recommendations for travel insurance.

The recommended database Money helper has 26 specialist companies - before I start calling them all does anybody have any recommendations and what it cost them please?

Hoping this will save a day of my time !!.

  • Hello Markrd13,

I suggest you have a look at the travel insurance community on here for help on which insurance companies to contact for quotes.

Many of the "mainstream" insurers might not be much use but there's no harm in trying them. Maybe Staysure, but possible better alternatives are Insurancewith and albert& eddie. Try them out and if possible let us know how you get on.

You should be able to get online quotes but often (and especially if you're unsure what to answer in reponse to their questions) it's best to 'phone them to be sure you're answering correctly.

I do hope you can get reasonable cover and enjoy a trip to the Canaries.

  • Hi , don't know if this is of any use , when I was going on holiday to Tenerife I tried Esure travel insurance , this was after I'd had my operation but they couldn't insure me ,if i still had the cancer they would insure me but i was  " too healthy " , in other words they'd only insure me if I had cancer , that was in 2022 . May be worth giving them a try .

Hope you manage to get some insurance and enjoy a well earned  rest in the sunshine .

    Take care Sandra

  • Hello Markrd13

I had the same diagnosis as you in September last year and had previously booked a holiday to Cyprus which i had not sorted insurance with at that time.

Not sure if you've managed to sort the insurance out yet but after lots of phone calls i ended up paying a large amount to All clear as they were the cheapest!!! It seems you are penalised for having cancer and wanting to travel!! If you would like any more details let me know and hope you manage to get away as it does help

  • I was diagnosed in Jan 21 and my first holiday was so stressful trying to organise insurance.
I used Insurewith  which had been recommended on this forum.
it does cover you but the amount they will pay out if you need medical treatment for the cancer is minimal. Read the small print.
my personal advice is don’t stress about it and enjoy every minute of the holiday. You deserve it

  • Hi I was diagnosed with Stage 4 NSCLC after admission to hospital for pneumonia. I was given one round of chemotherapy but found my body won’t tolerate it and not suitable for anything else. After this I was told to ‘ come back when you feel ill!  After much searching online the results of which are below I have found an insurance company who has covered me for £300 for a 3 week cruise round Europe. The company is called TOTAL TRAVEL PROTECTION We also wanted to go on holiday.  Having previously been treated for oesophageal cancer which was completely removed and having been discharged for this as totally removed. I have various other things that affect insurance and the majority of companies won’t cover me. A few companies were quoting numbers like £2500 for 2 weeks cruise round Europe
