My mum has advanced metastatic lung cancer which is not treatable. Could you tell me what support she is entitled to with regards to palliative support? I feel alone.
Hi Cupcakes,
My experience may not be 100% relevant, but may get you pointed in the right direction if nobody else chips in so here goes...
My Mum had a couple of strokes and needed a lot of help at home. I needed to get some help arranged for her as there was no way she could fend for herself. I contacted the local council's Adult Social Services department, explained the situation, and asked for help. They arranged an emergency team of carers to visit from the NHS starting almost immediately followed by a more permanent arrangement of carers from an agency. Agency carers are all pretty much the same but if arranged by the council are significantly cheaper than going privately and have to meet standards. Carers are means-tested, which is why my Mum had to pay, but her Attendance Allowance covered it - the disability from her strokes made her eligible.
Fingers crossed that this is helpful.
kind regards
Steve
