Hi all.
I have been looking online and the only safe space I feel I can ask this privately was through this forum.
long story short, my dad has a mass found at 7cm back in June/July time. He had - ct biopsy, broncoscopy etc and nothing came up about lung cancer (but we knew this could be the case so as a family we was all concerned) he then was treated for pneumonia in the lung and following an intense course of steroids for 6 weeks and a repeat scan it now shows that the mass/consolidated area has now grown in size - now they seem more concerned about cancer and my dad has just had a PET scan and now awaiting whether his biopsy will be CT guided or EBUS.
I go to his appointments and asked the questions if needed and my concern is that the mass didn’t improve with the steroids previously and now we’re back down the cancer route and I’ve this has potentially been a missed diagnosis.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation please?
thank you in advance
Hi Nikzzxo welcome to the forum and I am sorry to hear what has been happening for you. I m not sure about your query but it is one question that only you can ask the medics who have been treating your Dad. That said and reading your story this sounds like Cancer was ruled out and has as yet not been confirmed as a Cancer now, or am I mistaking this information? There are lots of things that could have been showing up as the first mass and the idea of treating with steroids does seem a sensible way to go forward at that point in time. Has the area of concern grown by much in size? Im interested to see what others think and the different perspectives on your post. Best Wishes for now.
Hi Gail.
sorry it doesn’t come across as clear as what it all is in my head. The first time around we knew the potential there could be cancer - and it was never really ruled out back then but treat for pneumonia with the steroids (he was on 8 steroids a day at one point)
im just a nervous and concerned daughter
Hi Nikzzxo
Sorry that you have cause to be on here.
It could well be that the pneumonia was masking any potential signs of cancer. They would not have undertaken a biopsy at that time as treating the pneumonia would have been the priority and they would not risk introducing any further bacteria into the lungs.
Please don't torture yourself that this was a misdiagnosis.
Kegsy x
