Hi all
I'm 4 months post op upper lobectomy, Caught early thankfully. Plus had a blast of targeted radiotherapy on a non cancerous brain tumour which is misbehaving about a month ago.
Last couple days been so breathless, feeling sick and very dizzy whenever I walk around or do anything and not really feeling too good overall. Is this about par for the course, do you think? I know it's not been ages since the op but thought id be doing better as I was so fit before?Very hard to get a GP appointment and I really can't face 12hrs in A & E to see someone who won't do anything. Thanks for any replies!
Hi Ails as this breathlessness is something new, I would urge you to seek advice. It could be a number of things, from a virus to a blood clot, so really needs checking. I would of suggested calling your lung nurse or oncology secretary, but as we are now going into the weekend they won’t pick that up until Monday. If it was me, I would call 111 and seek their advice on this. They maybe able to get you in to be checked without the dreaded A&E wait.
Please do let us know how you get on.
ah, thanks, Chelle. Yes, the breathing got better while I was on Dexa for the post rad brain swelling but now it's worse than ever. Totally forgot about the lung nurse I can ring, so thanks for that suggestion! This is what happens when I try to pretend I'm not ill! I'm such a div at the mo since the brain fry! What a star you always are. Thank you x
Hi Ailes Did you not get a yellow card when you had your op and chemo , mine gets you to the front of the queue you just go in up to the count show them the card and you are wizzed through , my neighbour also had bowl cancer she needed help in the middle of the night on a saturday she went to A & E and straight in no messing round , the yellow card appears to give them the heads up that you are urgent and not to mess round . good luck
HI yes we have a few yellow cards wife has one in her purse for me and i have one in my wallet and we have a a5 size card kept by the phone , it tells you a number iof things , it says on it clinical oncology and haematology directorate , i am currently recieving or have recieving chemotheraphy treatment and then a black line with the neutropenic sepis you just show the card , the reason they gave the large one is that if you live alone and where to call and pass out it is by the phone so ambulance crew or anyone coming will know .
You can use the card for 5 years i was told becaus you are monitored for the first 5 years after treatment and this card makes them aware and yes it does get you in quick , wife rang when i was having issues and told the gp and wham come straight in please , so i guess some places do and do not we are west midlands
Hi there , sorry to sound a numpty but what is the yellow card you were given after your op and chemo ? I had op to remove part of lung but no chemo and now a recurrant but never heard of "yellow card " or as Ails said a " green card " , is that only given if you have chemo ?
Take care x
Sandra
Hi Sandra i will try and scan it and put on here i will have to blank the numbers because they are for my local hospital but it will give you the idea , you get this because you are at risk of Neutropenic sepsis after chemo , , not sure how it works after just the op but as i say the nurses insisted my wife have some for bag wallet purse car and a large card for by the phone , even though she is will me 24/7 they said if she was out and i called an ambulance and blacked out they would see the card and know , i hope it is ok to scan it here , mods if you are not happy please remove the scan thank you
