This last week my mum has was compiling her cheek was tingling and face felt numb called ambulance thought might be. Stroke. No all clear - went to my mums yesterday she could barely move / her speach was slurred / straight to A & E. Today been told lesion on the brain , it’s only tiny - oncology wants to see my mum Tuesday - to make sure she fit enough for radiotherapy on her brain - I just feel so broken and gutted , not even 3 months clear - she can’t even get up her speach is slurred and I’m holding her and don’t want to let her go- xxx. xx make the most of every day you are here, xx
Hi,
Not to make light of the situation, it is serious of course, but not necessarily as bad as it looks. I speak from experience - I had a brain tumour in my left parietal lobe, it affected my balance a bit and my speech among other things, the brain is well weird.
I would expect some of your Mum's symptoms are from the lesion itself, but also from the swelling caused by it. I was given dexamethasone for the swelling and it worked a treat, the symptoms disappeared for the few days I was on it.
I also had radiotherapy on my brain, after surgery they lightly toasted the tumour bed to get rid of what wasn't easily cut out. Compared with chemo and immuno it was a walk in the park.
So don't panic, it's early days and there are treatment options.
Oh, and a maybe helpful tip: the bit of the brain for talking is in a different area to the bit for singing, so if Mum can't talk her words maybe she can sing them? Like I said, the brain is weird.
kind regards
Steve
Hi Steve I really appreciate your response, thank you so kind of you, apparently the lesion is tiny at the front of her brain, let’s hope it’s a good outcome, I am glad you are doing well. Xx x x you are kind x
I know how scary this is for you and your mum, and think you needed that reply from StevePr it was very reassuring to hear this from someone who has gone through it themselves.
Thinking of you and mum, and really hope next week brings some more reassuring news for you. Xx
