Hi my mum coped well while going through radiotherapy for her lung cancer bu5 when it finished she became so unwell, she just can’t eat she’s fading away and then ended up with a c-diff life threatening infection and has now lost more weight - she’s skin. & bone! I’m so worries because she still says she has no appetite, she’s nearly six weeks out of therapy . I feel she feels so bad she’s giving up, irs so upsetting
It’s so very hard to see this happen to a loved one. Can you call your palliative nurses to get advice and see your mum?
Hello Smurf1975, how very worrying for you. My husband finished his chemo/radiotherapy 4 weeks ago. The radiotherapy left him with a very very sore burnt oesophagus so eating and drinking was unbelievably painful for him. It wasn't that he didn't want to eat - he was just so wary of the pain he'd have if he did. Is your mum in hospital or at home? My husband had 2 weeks in hospital due to dehydration and malnutrition. He's been home a couple of weeks now. What I've found helpful is to have small, easily swallowed snacks available at all hours of the day - ice cream, custard, mashed potatoes etc plus the Fortisip preparations the hospital prescribed for him. I think you should be able to contact your designated nurses to advise you. I so wish you lots of love and hugs and will be thinking of you and your mum. Zebra
