Hi. Results tomorrow afternoon & to say I’m as worried as is an understatement! It’s been really hard waiting since biopsy 12 days ago. Will they tell me my treatment options & prognosis at this appointment? Thanks Julie

  • Thinking of you.

You should be told what type of lung cancer you have and what grade (this is how closely the cancer cells resemble normal cells).  You should expect to be told the treatment options available to you.  Sometimes there will be more than one, and other times something else will take a specific treatment option off the table.

I haven't come across any oncologists willing to talk prognosis unless a cancer is very advanced, in which case treatment tends to be palliative.  They will generally tell you the success rates of the different treatments if you ask, but keep in mind any cancer statistics are at least 5 years out of date by definition.

I hope your appointment brings you the best possible answers.

  • Thank you, that does help knowing what to expect. I’m glad the day is here so I can find out & move forward one way or another Pray

  • The other thing which can happen is you getting handed off to a specific team which then wants to run its own additional tests.  Even though it's often necessary, the discontinuity of care can still be unsettling.

  • Hi Lolie. Hope you’re keeping well. Got results & I have Adenocarcinoma & my consultant has sent an urgent referral to the surgical team as I’m having it removed. Not sure whether LOBECTOMY or WEDGE RESECTION until I’ve been seen. I expected it was malignant & I myself I’m glad I can have it removed Julie

  • I have a PET scan tomorrow morning and then the seemingly endless wait for the results, which may well be that they want to biopsy, involving another seemingly endless wait.

I hope you get a surgery date quickly.

  • Hi. It does feel like your constantly waiting for test & results. Praying everything is ok Blush for you

  • Thank you.  At the moment the biggest challenge is going to be fasting for 6 hours before the scan.  It's winter here and I do like my morning cuppa, especially in cold weather.

  • I know what you mean. My cuppa is the only thing keeping me going during the day. When I had my biopsy at first I was having breakfast at 6 then nothing but in the morning at 6 I was told I couldn’t eat or drink & I hadn’t had anything from the evening before & then had to wait for x ray after which was 12.30 so went 16 hours without a thing Tired face
