I started my immunotherapy treatment last month( duravulmab ) and have developed a red itchy skin rash on my chest and back …. Spoke with my specialist nurse who is monitoring and prescribed some steroid cream and antihistamines… anyone else experienced this and can offer support or suggestions on creams etc that helped  thanks Elly x

  • Hi Elly,

My experience might not be relevant, I was on Pembrolizumab, but it might?

I figured that immunotherapy was making me react to things I normally shouldn't and wouldn't - I called it my crazy paranoid immune system. As far as washing was concerned after much trial and error I finally ended up using Tesco baby shampoo instead of regular soap or shower gel. Less expensive fancy ingredients, all non-irritant stuff. Didn't completely solve the problem, this is a tough one to crack, but did make a big difference.

    kind regards
    Steve

  • thanks Steve , I think you’re right about trial and error , I’ve tried everything e45 , aveeno , baby gel … I’ll keep at it !

  • Hi keen to know how you got on, I’m in week 3 of treatment and only had one dose of pembro and I am covered in a rash head to toe…they are talking about stopping my pembro

  • Hi EllyB

Ive been having immunotherapy for 18 months now, my main side effect has been dry skin and itchy patches, I've had nose bleeds and bleeding gums and on occasion a rash, my side effects aren't consistent in that I don't get the same ones every time but I've not had anything to serious, I've coped with my skin conditions by using good quality moisturizer and nice cool showers, I have used the following products and found them very productive. Margaret Dabbs moisturizer and SBC propolis, both of these have been very good and my issues clear after a couple of days unfortunately they do return after the next treatment so I continue to use said products, dry skin and rashes seem to be very common with immunotherapy and you do need to be care that a rash is just that and nothing else is happening, so you've done the right thing reporting it to the nurse. I'm happy to explore any options with you if it helps.

    Have a great day
