Hi everyone
I’m posting an update after I asked some questions about wedge resection and lobectomy in December.
I had a 1.5 cm nodule in my upper right lung (found on X-ray for unrelated condition). It was not possible to do a biopsy, so on 12th December I had a wedge resection. They took two wedges, but were not able to get biopsy results on the day. I got the pathology report just before Christmas and the nodule turned out to be a tuberculosis granuloma. I have psoriatic arthritis so have been immunosuppressed for some years, so I must have picked up TB from somewhere. The consultant had been pretty sure it was lung cancer, so a bit of a surprise for everyone I think. The surgery went fine and I have recovered well. Thank you so much to everyone who responded to my questions about surgery, it really helped to have your advice and benefit from your experience.
So, not cancer and no further treatment on that score but six months of antibiotics to treat the latent TB. I am so lucky and grateful to have this outcome. I am sending all my very best wishes to everyone in the group whether a patient or relative or friend. I hope the ongoing journey goes well for everyone, I will be thinking about you all.
Much love, Gwen
