Anyone here had RATS (robotic assisted thoracic surgery)?

I'm probably going to have robotic assisted surgery for lung cancer next week. The hospital has been brilliant - there's an app with easy to understand information and lots of short self help videos. But I can't find anything by someone who has had this type of surgery on a lung. Anyone know where I could look?

  • Hi  (love your ID by the way!). Having read your profile you've definitely been dealt a rough deal - I'm sorry to say, it's hard enough to deal with just the one but the members of these forums provide wonderful support.

Last year when I was diagnosed with Endometrial cancer I was told I'd either have a Laparoscopic or a Da Vinci hysterectomy (robot assisted) Either option sounded like something out of Star trek to me and I was totally numb. The following day another surgeon doing her ward rounds said she'd viewed my op being done in the adjoining theatre with her team whilst waiting for her next patient. She said my surgeon had done a lovely job - it was so surreal.

In the end I had Laparoscopic but I did thoroughly read the Da Vinci paperwork given to me where the benefits include less infection rates and quicker healing.

Fingers crossed someone in this group comes along with an answer for you to set your mind at rest.

Good luck for next week, Bxx
