I had a blocked femoral artery in March 2020, at the time of the CT scan they detected a legion in my right lower lung; another scan in June showed the legion has grown very slightly and this was followed with a PET scaN 2 weeks later. My last scan in early September has shown no growth on the legion but has shown a degree of thickening my consultant cannot confirmif it is cancer but he is trying to get the surgical Team to have it removed if not another scan in 3 months. This is causing me so much worry and anxiety that I not sure what to do anymore, I have been back to work after shielding and with the current situation it’s making this worse.
Hi Bear155
It is not unusual for scans to show up unexpected (and unwelcome) anomalies. The positive is that they are closely monitoring it for any changes, and the most recent scan has shown that the lesion has not grown. Lesions can be caused by number of things and are not always cancerous. I appreciate that any finding can be cause for anxiety but please try not worry. Remember that this year you have survived the blocked femoral artery, which was probably more dangerous than this pesky lesion.
In June 2019 my routine 'every 2 years scan' showed that a nodule in my good cancer free lung had started to grow, so I was put onto 6 monthly scans as a monitoring process. Two more scans later and the nodule no longer seem to be growing. I have agreed with my cancer team to have one more scan ahead of my next 6 monthly appointment; if the situation is the same with no further growth evident I will go back to the 'every 2 years scan' regime.
Do you have access to any form of therapy/support to deal with the anxiety? It may be worth while to contact your GP or your cancer team to see if there is any support you can be referred to.

Hi Kegsy,
Many thanks for the reply, my consultant will be letting me know next Thursday if they are going to operate to remove it, this is what he recommends but told me it’s up to the surgical team, his main concern is that it has shown some grown and thickening which is his concern, as regards to help with the anxiety issues I shall contact my GP and see what happens, not a lot I feel as they have not even bothered to make contact with me since March even with all the consultant letters that have been sent, many thanks for your reply x
Hi
Let us all know how you get on this Thursday. Also on Thursday, let your Consultant know how anxious you are and ask him if the hospital has any therapist or counsellors you could be referred to.
As for the GP surgery, I never had any contact after my lung cancer diagnosis; I think they leave you in the hands of the hospital specialists unless you contact them.
