Hi All

I have seen people say they are unsure how to do certain things on the site. So I thought a thread for anyone that want's to know how to do things on the site and whoever knows can explain how to do it to them to try and help.

It can be a bit fiddly so we can all share how we do it to make it easier for us all.

I got some extra training when I did the champions training, so might be able to help with some stuff, though there are a few things that still baffle me.

So if there is anything you want to know how to do, feel free to post the question on this thread.

  • Gina, that would be lovely.  Pretty sure I was told how to do a link but can't find it so it would be great to have all the tips on one thread......so links to anything please......people, groups etc etc.

    Cool thanks Ina Vest

If you are on a laptop to insert a link. You click reply and at the top of the box you click on the insert option, and choose the first option called link on the list.

In the URL you copy and paste the link you want to send the person to. In the box below called text to display, I type this over to say what I am pointing them to. So Macmillan keep saying they have updated the lung cancer information on the site. So I would call it lung cancer information.

Then click ok, when it posts it will highlight the link with green and underline it like this. lung cancer link

I hope that makes sense. Let me know if not.

    Kacirh Lovely.

Maggie just Maggie you may like to see this one too!!! Smiley

When I come into the lung cancer group it looks like this:

I always click on the discussions button so all the most recent threads come up and if it has new replies since you last read it, it's in bold. For me this is a much easier and a neater view of the forum rather than the default latest activity.

If you see a thread you want to read, you click on the thread title and it will take you into that entire thread. When you want to reply click on the any of the reply button below any person and it will bring up a new box for you to type your reply to.

When you have written what you want to say, you click post and your reply becomes visible to all.

  •  I think I've done it Gina, thank you.  I was trying to point nadezhda to this group Life After Cancer  in a recent post but could not work out how to do it.  The Highlander often suggests reading this very good paper  . I am getting carried away now with this new superpower LaughingGina, you can't stop me now.

    Hi

I will post the how to search the group for keyword threads here to try and keep the hints and tips on one place.

I would suggest when you search though that any thread that was started more than a year ago is used for reading only in case the original posters circumstances have changed or they may have moved on from the forum.

So when you come into the group there is a search the group box at the top which I have highlighted in the below picture for you. If you put the keyword in here and click the looking glass it will bring up all threads that mention that word within them.

It will bring up the following screen once complete.

Any problems you are welcome to ask.

    Hi

I am hoping this may help on how to post a picture. If you go to Insert and select insert image/video/file from the drop down box.

This will open a new box and if you change the from to File upload. Then in the File drop down find the image you want to upload. When the image appears in there it is ready to go and you can click ok at the bottom of the box and continue to post the message as usual.

If you are uploading from a phone please let us know the type and someone can help you further as this is from a laptop but it's very similar, so I am hoping you will be able to once you have seen this.

Ahh it's the profile picture. Yes there is a flaw and many can't do (including me). If you email the admins of the site community@macmillan.org.uk attaching the picture you want they can change it for you.
