Time scale for diagnosis

Hi all

My dad is currently going through investigation for lung cancer.  It all started on April 7th with a dose of pneumonia that had dad attending A & E.  Nodule seen needing CT scan.  CT scan done in 21st April.  Got a call from acute med doctor asking us to go in to hospital who confirmed they thought cancer.  We waited an appointment which was 21st May!  The nodule that was a concern showed nothing but they had picked up another small mass in the CT scan and needed a PET scan. Got a PET scan on 23rd May but we're now being told further testing which isn't due for another 2 weeks!!!   Can anyone tell me what the time scale should be and where should be our starting point please based on the above ? I've read 62 day pathway from referral to starting treatment and if we use the 7th April as the starting point our 62 days is up the weekend!

TIA

  • Hiya , sorry you find yourself here with your dad . I waited 92 days for treatment to begin, it seemed never ending and way to long . I really hope your dad is treated quicker . Not a healthy mind set to start this horrible journey . I was waiting along time for biopsy results . I had to chase them up , I rang every day , until results were back . Pray   xxx

  • Hi, I’m not sure on the “official” expected time scale, but my mum was over 3 months of tests from the initial start, longest 3 months of our lives. Hope all goes well x

  • Likewise, it's a horrible situation to be in Cry. It's the unknown!  Thank you it puts ours into perspective.  Do you mind me asking what treatment you eventually ended up having please? Xx

  • Hi Greyhoundlover

Thank you for responding, it helps me understand where we're currently at.  Do you mind me asking what her treatment plan was please? Hope she's doing ok xx

  • Hi ,

Im having 4 rounds if chemo and immunotherapy . Ive had 3 so far. My last 1 is Tuesday , and I've another pet scan this Saturday , then surgery.  Xxx

  • It looks like my dad may have lymph node involvement and they're now having to do a bronchoscopy and brain scan so this has completely changed what the treatment plan was supposed to be Cry hope it all goes well for you xx

  • These tests are normal practise I think most of us had a brain scan (mri) once all results back , you will feel better and you will get the best treatment and care. It's the waiting , none of us can seem to deal with . Good luck for your dad and family try and and stay strong and positive xx

  • I know.  I'm quite an organized person and like to know what I'm dealing with.  Dad doesn't want to know so I need to to be able to ask the right questions Heart️. I'm strong in front of everyone else it's when I'm alone I crumble.  I'm just sat at the train station going for a day in London for work so I'll be in my own head for a big chunk of today - which isn't good of course Cry. Thank you for the support xx

  • It's hard not to think about it , I go to bed thinking and 1st thing when I wake up . Just want to go back to 'normal ' life . Your welcome here if you need a chat xx

  • Hi Star68

My mum had 4 weeks of radiotherapy.

I'm exactly the same a you, I am organised, I love a plan, and cannot cope with unknown, so the waiting was horrific, but kept strong in front of mum who was (and still is!) in denial. xx
