Anyone have experience of two lobectomies?

Hello All

I was last on this forum in 2022 when I was treated for a 3.5mm tumour on my upper left lung. It was a very stressful experience, but in many ways I was lucky to be successfully treated by a lobectomy, with no need for further treatments.

A second nodule on my right lung was monitored through regular CT scans and for 3 years there were no changes or growth. My recent scan has however shown a marginal increase in size. I am waiting for dates for Pet and biopsy but I’m really scared of going through this all again.

I am just wondering if anyone has experienced having lung surgery on both lungs. How they found it and the impact it had on them?

Any thoughts welcome…

  • Hello ,

I'm sorry to hear of the investigations being done on your right lung, and do hope that the result is favourable meaning you don't need further treatment.

I haven't had surgery on both lungs, I just had this on one when my entire right lung was removed. Following recovery I experienced no significant issues other than becoming a little breathless when exercising. The right lung has 3 lobes and the left has 2, so I lost 3 fifths of capacity but have seen an X-ray taken since showing that my left lung has since expanded, presumably replacing some of the lost capacity.

I would expect that the main issue in the long term would be a small increase in breathlessness when exercising.

I hope you get good results and you don't need any further treatment.

    Derek.
