Hi there

my mum has stage 4 lung cancer. It’s almost been two weeks since the diagnosis and they have sent off samples for molecular testing to determine what treatment is right for me.

we have not heard anything back despite the lung specialists chasing the other team for it. I am worried that there will be delays in getting mum the treatment she needs especially as it’s at an advanced stage.

my understanding was that there is a legal requirement for NHS to start treatment within two weeks of diagnosis.

please can anyone give me any advice on what to do?

thanks

naz

  • Hey chelle

My mum had her first appointment with the oncologist today and they have decided targeted therapy is the best treatment for her. I am so relieved as she is still able to live some what a reasonable quality of life providing she responds well to it.

i am hopeful she will live a lot longer and hoping that I can somewhat regular my emotions a bit more now we have some form of treatment and not being in the unknown for a few months.

Thanks again for your sweet message xx

  • Thank you so much. I’m sorry for what you are going through and inspired at how strong and positive you are being. My mum is started targeted therapy on Monday which is great news. I am here if you ever need anyone to speak to. Thank you for your kind message xx

  • Thanks so much for sharing your experience and it’s great hear that your response to the treatment as been positive. I hope I can be as positive and strong as you are xx

  • Hi   I was wondering how mum got on so thank you for the update.
Being in limbo waiting for a treatment plan is very stressful,  and I am sure you will still feel a little tentative until mum has started her treatment and settled into a routine with that. I wonder if her treatment will be in tablet form, which will certainly make the treatment process much simpler for your mum. Once you have a name for the treatment let us know as I am sure there will be others here who will be able to share their experience with you x

it will be in tablet form and I think she will be starting her treatment on Monday. So we were really happy about that. I will find out the name of the tablet and share it in this forum.

I also really like the quote that you have put. I will try my best to be mums rainbow. Xx
