Hi everyone, we have had a review with the Oncologist today. My Dad's treatment has been changed from Cisplatin and Vinorelbine to Carboplatin and Pemetrexed. He starts back on chemo next Thursday. We have been advised the side effects with carbo and pemetrexed are much more tolerable. I was hoping someone may be able to shed light on their journey of the same treatment? Dad will have a scan towards end of cycle 3 and hopefully started curative radiotherapy. His treatment plan has changed from concurrent to sequential chemo-radiotherapy

I was given a B12 injection a month before chemo started then another after three months. So no.. not before each session.
I was very lucky with lack of nausea. Will dig out names of anti sickness tabs I was given but was also sent home with metroclopramide linctus to sip if I needed after tablets ended. Bottle still unopened.
Easy to say but try not to stress too much. Make sure your dad has a book, phone, music, earphones or whatever and be prepared to leave him to it if he wants during chemo. I sent hubby packing so I could just relax and chill for a while in the middle of all the chaos.
You can see how I’m doing if you look at my answer to Wrighty. Keeping everything crossed.
Ps. Make sure they send your dad home with a laxative prescription as that seemed to be a big problem for the men being treated the same time as me. They do like their routines ..
Just looked up what meds I had during chemo. Am sure you will get the same or similar but for your info.. I took one Dexamethasone (steroid) tablet every 12 hours starting the night before chemo for three days. Plus one anti sickness Akynzeo (netupitant/palonosetron) tab about an hour before chemo started.
I really hope everything goes ok for your Dad on Thursday and that he copes better with the new chemo regime.
Hi Baytree123
my dad has the dexamethasone and akzenyo to take before his chemo Thursday. He had this before the cisplatin. We also have the metrochlorpromide and ondanestron anti sickness for afterwards as well. With the carboplatin he’s got to have vitamin b12 injection and folic acid as well prior to the infusion. I am really hoping it goes ok. I feel so anxious about Thursday and there’s still a few days to go yet. My dad said today that he had a nervous tummy as well feeling anxious about Thursday. He looked a bit washed out today. It’s hard to see and feels scary xxx
Good luck for tomorrow. Hope your Dad copes ok with the new chemo regime.
Thank you ️ Baytree123 it is very kind of you to remember and message! My dad signed the consent form yesterday and said he felt very reassured by the oncologist feedback about carboplatin so we are keeping our fingers crossed! I will let you know how he gets on xxx
I just wanted to check in and let you know that my dad had his chemo Thursday and so far, so good. No side effects from the chemo and we are 4 days on. The only problem he’s had is irritability whic we have put down to the steroids they gave him afterwards. He had 60% of his dose this time so looking to increase to 80% on the next dose

Hi. So glad to know your Dad's doing ok this time. Even if he is a bit tetchy!
I found the tiredness kicked in around day five. So you may have that to come. Fingers crossed for the rest of his treatment. Do you mind me asking.. what dose is he supposed to be on? I'm not sure I ever knew mine but it's made me wonder.
