Hi I'm new here and looking for some advice please.

I'm 55 and was diagnosed in Dec 20 with nsclc, all a shock as no 'typical' symptoms. Further scans showed cancer had spread to lymph nodes and 3 areas in my spine one of which is lower back and the cause of the pain that took me to docs in the first place.

Targeted therapy treatment is going really well and currently no back pain compared to how it originally started.  Now been offered radiotherapy for 3 areas on my spine but as much as i want to throw everything at this I'm uncertain due to the possible side effects when I'm feeling so well at the moment? Anyone had this in combination with targeted therapy tablets???

  • Hi Gem65, sorry you haven't had a reply yet. I just wanted to welcome you to the group, although sorry you find yourself here.

I am glad that the targeted therapy is going well and has helped to ease the back pain. Although I do not have any personal experience with your type of treatment, I would personally be wanting to go for the radiotherapy to throw everything at it, as you said. Of course this is a personal decision, and I hope someone who has had experience of this will be along soon to share their journey with you.

    Take care

Thank you for your message really appreciate it. Hoping the short term side affects will be long term gain but would be great to hear of any one who has experience of radiotherapy on spinal area.

When diagnosed (NSCLC) I was given radiotherapy on a tumour on my pelvis which caused me no discomfort except for one bad dose of diarrhoea and tiredness and WBRT (whole brain radiotherapy) which I don't think has caused any side effects (I've always been a bit mad!). Mine  was before chemo, so not when on targeted therapy. I had five sessions in five days. Hope that helps.

Hi Agnieska thank you so much for your reply.

I've just read your profile, pretty amazing and for some one just starting this road good to see how long you've been on it bumps and all.

I've just started osimertinib had a few side affects so far. Also have denosumab injection for the bones.

Hi, I haven't had any experience of radiotherapy but I'm also on osimertinib. There's an 'EGFR positive UK' Facebook group which might have someone who's experienced both, if you're not already a member of it? Of course, given that I'm a bit late replying, you've probably already made your decision. I hope it's going well!
