Enlarged Nodules in lung.

Hi everyone,

I had a consultation  with my oncologist last week and was told that the nodules in my right lung have enlarged since my last CT/MRI scan.  It was discussed in the MDT meeting.  I was told that the oncologist would phone me later in the week.

The telephone call came towards the end of the week.  I was told that a lung surgeon and a respiratory consultant were called into the meeting.  The scans were reviewed and there was some concerns about the enlarged nodules in the right lung.  I've also been suffering from breathlessness.  I also have numerous lumps on my arms and legs (Its Scary).

Th scans also showed that I have a cluster near my heart  Heart.

There is going to be another MDT meeting with the lung surgeons and a respiratory  team.  I've been told that I will have to have more tests to see whether it is sinister or whether there is something else going on.  I just want a diagnosis because I'm not very good at not knowing.

I'm just wondering whether anyone in the group has had any similar problems with enlarged lung lymph nodes and clusters near the heart.  What kind of tests might I undergo.  I know that you may not be medically trained, but your own personal experience would be valuable to me.

I would appreciate any advice that you could give me, as to what to expect in the coming days, weeks and months, also what question do I need to ask the consultant oncologist.

Sorry for the rambling, but I'm just a little stressed about this next challenge that I'm facing.

Ps: Just to say that I am recovering from bowel cancer and finished chemo some months ago.

  • Hi Polly3.  I do not have personal experience with lung nodules so I am not sure what tests they will do, but I did not want to leave your post unanswered.
You must be feeling very anxious, especially as you have already had bowel cancer.
I have lungs mets from my endometrial stromal sarcoma, so I do know how worried you must be about this. When the mets were first discovered, I had a tumour which was blocking the airway. They removed this and this was sent off for histology. I do know that other people in the group have had a needle biopsy on the lung to determine what is going on.

I hope you get some answers soon from your team, as the waiting is the hardest bit.

    Take care

  • Hi Chellaston,

I see this next challenge as a journey toward healing and wholeness.  Like most journeys there are going to be bumps in the road, but its how we cope/deal with those bumps in life that will strengthen and encourage us to reach that final destination.

    Everyday is a  New beginning

Take a deep breathe, smile and start again.

  • I have lung cancer and awaiting results from bronchoscopy and PET/CT scan. Enlarged lymph nodes now in windpipe. It is harrowing. Cancer diagnosed last year and I had a needle biopsy to see what was happening. I suspect I may need another one. It is guided CT biopsy and not as harrowing as you might think. I am really disappointed as had surgery and follow on chemo last year and was hoping for longer time before recurrence. All we can do, it seems to me, is to be as sad as we want to be but also just taking one step at a time and trying to live in the day. I hope your uncertainty is solved soon.
