  • Dee I have had radiotherapy, I did not feel dizzy at all. I also did not lose any hair. The posts you have been reading are people who have had brain radiotherapy. You said your brain scan was clear.

    Thanks Chelle

  • Hi Dee, you will not lose your hair, I had 20 sessions over 4 weeks, as Chelli  said hair loss is more to do with brain Radiation therapy.

My esophagus became a little sore half way through Radiation therapy, and had to stop drinking alcohol and could only drink milk, found Rowntees fruit gums helped as well, for some reason, still suck them now when I get poor Lung function, thats now due to mild Radiation Pnumontis, they put me on steroids but I had a bad reaction to them have found Ibuprofen works for me against inflamation, but overall radiation therapy for me, was no where near, as bad as I had expected it would be, Radiation therapy has evolved to a large degree over the last twenty years, as they now can target the Cancer tumour with the Radiation, sparing healthy cells as much as possible.

Computerised technology has meant they can now target the tumour,  going through 360 degrees shaping the radiation beams as the Linac machine travels 360 degrees shaping the Radiation beam as it travels,, that is if you are having external beam Radiation therapy.

Only takes a few minutes, at the end of every weeks sessions, they take a rough Scan to make sure every thing is still on target, this is done on the same machine, so you will find one in every five sessions takes a little longer, I found I had had to ask the operators what was going on, no one told me, last one out of the treatment plan takes a little longer, asked at the time why it had taken longer they just said they needed to reset the machine, have found out since on the final session they retarget the machine to more accurately hit the tumour for the final burst.

Hope this helps this is my experience, everyone is different, hope this helps you in understanding what the procedure is if you are having External Radiation therapy to treat a Lung tumour.
