My mum went today for PET scan , lung function results etc. They’ve told her her tumour is 10cm by 6cm but contained in 1 lung ( right lower lobe). The respiratory consultant said the best option is to operate but my mum isn’t fit enough at the moment. They’ve basically gave us 6 weeks to improve my mums lung function and told us she will need a repeat lung function test and PET scan in 6 weeks as they don’t know if it will spread in the 6 weeks. They haven’t said anything about what stage she is etc, I feel really frustrated that at the moment it can be operated on but they can’t do it and if we wait 6 weeks it might spread
Hi Toot22, I’m sorry to hear about your mum. This is very frustrating for you. The good news is that it is contained within the one lung. I think they have to be cautious and re scan in 6 weeks, to make sure there is no change, but this doesn’t mean there will be. Have they given your mum lung exercises to do to improve her lung function? How does your mum feel about all of this ?
