Hell everyone, I haven’t been here for several years as my husband has been in remission from stage 3 lung cancer for nearly years, but it seems it’s back! He’s so strong and I’m pathetically in bits. Does anyone know if he’ll get more treatment? Has anyone been here and how do you cope. Thanks all
Frances
Hi Fran - really sorry for your pain but as I understand it, certainly with CUH where I am treated, the oncs won't give up until they absolutely have to.
Also and possibly crucially depending on just how long your husband has been in remission, treatments have come a long way in the last few years so get back on the rollercoaster to see where it gets him - hopefully, back in remission...
Click on the mug next to my username - that will take you to my bio which should demonstrate just how effective some of the newer drugs are on some people (& certainly on me. so far anyway...)
Do come back and keep us informed of your husband's progress and as you know, there is much support to be had here...
I wish you both well &
Stay Strong
SiT
Hi Frances, so sorry you have found yourself back here. I think SiT is absolutely right, there is always hope, and there are probably new treatments now that weren’t even around the first time your husband was diagnosed.
Hi SiT, thank you so much, I really needed to hear that. Trev is back on the roller coaster just as the consultant (Southampton Hospital) was about to discharge him for good. He was diagnosed in Dec 2014 and had all the usual tests where they discovered he also had tonsil cancer. They had to remove his tonsil before they could start treatment on his lung. He had one round of chemo which made his so ill so they changed for another with was much better but his blood was so low after that and he got sepsis so they couldn't give him any more. He then went on to have radical radiotherapy every day for 6 weeks. Immediately they finished they started on his throat but he had Cetuximab for this and the same amount of radiotherapy. He went from 13 stone to 8.1/2 stone but I soon built him back up. He had very frequent check ups with the consultants for each cancer. The throat cancer seems to be cured, amazing. He has only had yearly appointments for his lung for the last 2 years and this last one was in November this year. Consultant said he would do a CT as Trev had a cough and was tired, he phoned just before Christmas and said the cancer looked like it was back. 6 years he has had, we were so grateful for that time but it seems to have gone so fast now its over. He is having a Covid test ATM so that he can go in Wednesday for an EBUS test. So, here we are again........
We are very lucky, so many don't get what we've had even.
Hi Chelle, thank you for replying. Yes you're probably right and I am hopeful still and I know Trev won't give up. I was just worried that the Consultant might say he can do no more but he's been so brilliant all the way through, Trev was his wonder patient, he gave him a 10% chance of surviving 5 years and truly believed he had beat it. Damn cancer!! I was reading your story and I'm very sorry you have had this, you are so young too. I do hope you carry on getting the result you hope for. A cure must be around the corner soon. x
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
