Hi,
My dad has been diagnosed with secondary liver cancer and we are waiting to find out where it started from and the next steps. he has fluid in his stomach and his legs and feet are 3 times their size due to swelling. His appetite is so small and what does not make him sick changes daily. He is so tired and does not move from his chair unless to go to the toilet. He does not go upstairs anymore and sleeps on a bed in the living room. He is constantly cod and shivering, but this has all happened within 6 weeks. I am so scared about what the results will be and how long he has left. He is in so much pain and discomfort it’s hard to see. I don't know what i am asking with this but i just wanted to write it down and tell people who will hopefully understand how the waiting and the not knowing the future impacts your life and seeing someone who never really gets ill be like this is hard. Thanks for reading
Hello Hamshiremum . Sorry to hear your dad is in so much discomfort. I'm not from this group so not any experience to offer, but I noticed your post has slipped through without reply. By giving it a bump it will highlight it again and hopefully someone will be along to help. Does your dad have a CNS to call for advice on pain relief ? Just a suggestion, but it may be an idea to get a sample of his water tested to rule out any infection. I hope you get some help. Best wishes.
Hello firstly can I say how sorry I am to read this about your dad.
I have just joined today as my dad got results of his body scan last Wednesday and he's been diagnosed with oesophagus cancer which has spread to his liver.
I am absolutely devastated and all over the place.
Seeing him today he is so thin, it's like a skeleton in clothes, I was so shocked
He hasn't been eating well for a long time and hasn't been able to manage eating certain foods but never in a million years did I suspect something so devastating.
I have read about radiotherapy that could help with his swallowing food but my mum said that this hasn't been mentioned by the medical people who have been visiting over the last couple of weeks.
I have suggested she mention it when district nurse attends next week.
My dad is 90, and I know he won't want any invasive treatment but radiotherapy may help him?
I so want him to try anything that will keep him with us, but I am being selfish
I just don't know what to do
Hi Kaz1606
I am one of the community champions and I noticed no one had responded to your reply. This particular forum isn’t usually very busy - I look at it from time to time as my metastatic spread was to my liver - so it’s possible no one will give you ant tips on what to do. The original post you responded to is 5 months old and I don’t know whether the original poster still uses the site.
I can see you are a member of the oesophageal cancer forum. If you haven’t posted this on there it might be worth doing so.
