Hi,
I had a polyp removed in June, it was cancerous, but had not spread within the bowel. A CT scan however showed it had spread to my liver. I'm currently waiting to have a liver resection and have a pre op next week. I've had a "down day" today, which has brought me to this group! Despite being currently fit and healthy, I'm apprehensive rather than scared. Has anyone got any advice or been through similar?

I underwent a liver resection on the 29th August for HCC primary liver cancer and, TBH, whilst I, too, was apprehensive, I was also relieved to be fit and strong enough to be able to have the resection given that as few as 5-10% of people with a liver already compromised by cirrhosis (caused by Hep C) are suitable candidates for resection, It appears that the op was successful and that I have clear margins, meaning that all identifiable cancer was successfully removed.
Still recovering at home after 5 days in the hospital. Is there anything to warn you about? Post-operative pain was well-managed by drugs so that wasn't too bad - some pain obvs, but this eased considerably within a couple of weeks, and only a bit of mild discomfort now. Able to get out of bed within a day of the operation so when you have your operation I'd suggest that you get as mobile as soon as possible - it helps recovery massively and promotes a feeling of 'control' over your situation - the psychological boost this provides can't be underestimated! It is a major operation but something to be welcomed if the intent is curative. All in all, I'd say that you're in a good place if they are offering a resection - it means there is HOPE and that's massive!!
