hello all
i wish we had all met in better circumstances.I'm taking my dad for his first visit with the oncologist on Thursday. We know it has started in his bowel and moved to his liver and lungs , and through the research I’ve done so far I’m pretty certain we will be told it’s stage 4. Are there any specific questions i should be asking ?
many thanks
Hi Chriso73,
Sorry to welcome you to the club no one wanted to join, but welcome anyway.
The main bit of advice I can give is take a notepad and pen with you, write down everything you want to ask before, and write down their answers as oncologist appointments are always a blur (especially the first one!). If it's a staging meeting then I would suggest the main things you need to ask are stage, grade (how aggressive it is), how big the tumours are, how many, and what's the next steps. You'll need to know whether they are going to attempt surgery (with primary bowel I think they can attempt to remove any secondaries sometimes), and what treatments are available.
Other than that, just be there and support your dad I guess. Fingers crossed for you.
Take care
C
