Hi there
Anyone had a stab at calculating liver tumour growth rates?
1.if a sphere then 4/3 pi r3. Presumably half that for a flat surface. Demi sphere.
2. Radiologists give measurements of tumours but what exactly are they measuring ?Cant be the diameter.. if it is then take half as radius.
3. Annualise rates.
Did that as I was bored. The volume increases are just spectacular. Like Weimar hyperinflation rates.
Puts waiting lists for resection in perspective.
Hi Anthony
You must have been seriously bored! Only joking!
Welcome to the online community and I'm sorry about your diagnosis and the fact that you would like to know this information. It could be worth speaking to your specialist nurse or your consultants secretary. The other option is to contact the Macmillan helpline and you will be able to speak to or email a nurse. This is the link to contact https://www.macmillan.org.uk/about-us/contact-us
By responding to your post it will place it back at the top where it may hopefully be seen by someone more technical than me. I wish you well, best regards.
A x
Dear Sistermoon
The reason for asking the question is not theoretical.
Waiting times for a re section are circa 6 weeks.
Hence the tumours grow and larger slices of liver are required to be removed. Additionally who says that cancer cells do not escape localisation?
I have found that data on cancer incidence, alternative therapies ...ablation vs re section...chemo vs chemo plus added interventions and mortslity available to clinicians are seriously deficient. The lines of enquiry you suggest are in my experirnce completely useless..
They are a standard trope recited when questions are asked. Try asking a question yourself and see how far you get..Please before making a suggestion ask yourself is it practical...has it ever produced answers to technical questions.
Improvement is only possible if the current lacunae are addressed. The Professors i have consulted readily admit that the toolbag and database are defective. How then would a nurse be expected to answer?
I think you are trying to be helpful and wish you well.
