Hello. Where do I begin..... Husband is type 2 diabetic and currently lost 4 toes with gangrene. While having his big toe amputated in hospital he had a ct scan and it accidently picked up a growth on the bowel...shock!!! Further MRI scan has now confirmed secondary liver metastases. At the moment we are just going through a rollercoaster of emotions and just hanging on to every word that has been spoken to us by consultant but still not really wanting to believe we are having to deal with this. Hoping for some updates soon about next steps and treatment. Very scary to think of the furture when you cant even get your head around whats going to happen daily. We have been married 42 years and have a great network of support from family and both of us are being brave and strong for each other. Hoping to hear/read some postitive post on here to given us hope. xx

  • Hi

I'm sorry to read how much you and your husband have been going through.

Although I'm not a member of this group I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be more easily spotted. However, I can see that you've had some lovely replies to your post in the bowel cancer group.

It would be great if you could pop something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

Wishing you both all the best

  • Hi I’m sorry to hear what you and your husband are going through. I’m now 59, and had bowel cancer back in 2019. Chemo/radiotherapy followed by surgery. In July 2022 I was told I had liver metastases. Have found out that it was visible on a scan I had in 2020. The consultant said the cancer had been there since 2019. It was an enormous shock, but here I am now in 2023! I had a liver resection in September last year and am now due to have scans every six months. Due to the way cancer works, I can’t be formally considered as cured until 5 years have passed. Try and stay as positive as possible. Make sure that your husband eats healthily and stays active. Sending you both love and positive thoughts.
