I was diagnosed with liver cancer and given 1 year to live, this was six weeks ago. Since then I have had a Tace treatment with pretty much no side effects. I have been given no other meaningful information about my condition. Struggling to come to terms
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that you've recently been diagnosed with liver cancer and been told that you only have a year to live. Although I've not been in exactly your position I can understand why you'd be struggling to come to terms with this diagnosis and prognosis.
Not being a member of this group I can't give you any first hand experience with liver cancer but I have found this information which Macmillan have produced. If you take a look through it, it explains what liver cancer is and how it's treated.
You should have been assigned a cancer nurse specialist (CNS) and they are usually a mine of information if you want to ask any questions about your treatment. If mine is anything to go by you will probably have to leave a message on their answerphone and they will get back to you when they're not with other patients.
You say that you've been told that you only have a year to live so it's natural that you're struggling to come to terms with this. You might find this information on coping with your feelings helpful. Don't forget that what you've been told about life expectancy is an average and everyone's cancer is different. Usually doctors don't like to give a time as they can really only give a best guess based on other liver cancer patients. Some people live a lot longer than is expected and new treatments are always coming along.
I'd understand if you think it's too soon to join the group that I'm going to suggest, but you could have a look. The living with incurable cancer group is set up so that only people with an incurable diagnosis can post. That makes it a very safe and supportive place to discuss your feelings openly. It's also a very lively group with all sorts of threads running which are not just about cancer.
When you have a minute it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Sending a supportive ((hug))
